Engineered for the Climate

Decks built for
Manitoba winters.

A deck in Manitoba faces conditions that would destroy a deck built to warmer-climate standards. The freeze-thaw cycle that occurs dozens of times each spring and fall creates movement in footings, fasteners and decking materials. UV exposure during our long summer days degrades wood finishes and composite materials that are not rated for northern climates.

Champion MB builds decks with footings at proper frost depth, stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized fasteners, and decking materials selected specifically for Manitoba's climate. We build with pressure-treated lumber, composite decking from manufacturers with proven cold-climate performance, and cedar for clients who prefer natural wood aesthetics.

Fencing That Stays Straight

The most common fence failure in Manitoba is post heaving — the freeze-thaw cycle pushes fence posts out of the ground over time, causing sections to lean, sag or fall. Champion MB installs fence posts with concrete footings at frost depth, typically 4 to 5 feet below grade. This is more expensive than the standard approach of setting posts 2 to 3 feet deep, but it is the only approach that produces a fence that stays straight and plumb through multiple Manitoba winters. We build privacy fences, picket fences, board-on-board fences, and custom fence designs in wood, vinyl and composite materials.

Doors & Windows

A door or window that is not properly installed in a Manitoba home is an energy liability. Air infiltration around poorly installed frames can cost hundreds of dollars per year in heating costs and create condensation problems that damage surrounding framing. Champion MB installs exterior doors and windows with proper flashing, air sealing and insulation. We work with premium door and window manufacturers whose products are rated for Manitoba's climate zone, including triple-pane windows for maximum thermal performance in our coldest months.

Garages & Outbuildings

We also build detached garages, garden sheds, and small outbuildings. Whether you need a single-car garage with a heated workshop, a double-car garage with storage loft, or a garden shed that will last decades, we build it with the same standards we apply to every project — proper footings, quality materials, and craftsmanship that holds up to Manitoba weather.

What Clients Say.

Champion MB built a two-level deck with a pergola and it has been absolutely solid through three winters now. The footings are deep and nothing has moved. The composite decking still looks brand new.

We had a fence that kept heaving every spring. Champion MB replaced it with proper frost-depth footings and it has been perfectly straight for two years now. Should have done it right the first time.

Common Questions

Decks, Fences & Doors FAQs.

Deck costs in Manitoba range from $15,000 for a basic pressure-treated deck to $50,000+ for a large multi-level composite deck with pergola and built-in features. Costs depend on size, materials, and complexity.
Composite decking from manufacturers with proven cold-climate performance is our top recommendation. It does not crack, splinter or require annual sealing. For clients who prefer natural wood, cedar is our recommendation for its natural resistance to decay and movement.
Fence post heaving is caused by the freeze-thaw cycle. When posts are not set at proper frost depth, the ground movement pushes them up over time. We set all fence posts at 4 to 5 feet depth with concrete footings to prevent this.
Decks over 24 inches above grade typically require a building permit in most Manitoba municipalities. We handle permit applications as part of our service.
